BUILDING CULTURAL BRIDGES: INTERPRETERS IN THE SPECIAL EDUCATION FIELD

These workshops are for current English-Spanish language interpreters in the special education field. The sessions will show the importance of accurate, impartial interpretations, discuss interpreting "etiquette," present OSEP-created educational terminology in the Spanish language as a guide for interpreters, and establish the need for Spanish-language interpreters to have additional training in the special education process to better understand their role in the case conference. These workshops are designed to provide English-Spanish interpreters with basic knowledge about the special education process, the role of the interpreter, and the specific terminology needed to assure that accurate communication takes place between the case conference committee members, the school and the parents.
