 Building Cultural Bridges: 

Interpreters in the Special Education Field

This workshop is for current non-English language interpreters and those interested in interpretation. This session will show the importance of accurate, impartial interpretations, discuss interpreting "etiquette," present OSEP-created educational terminology in the Spanish language as a guide for interpreters, and establish the need for Spanish language interpreters to have additional training in the special education process to better understand their role in the case conference.

This workshop is designed to provide Spanish/English interpreters with basic knowledge about the special education process, the role of the interpreter, and the specific terminology needed to assure that accurate communication takes place between the case conference committee members. 

Jane Fuentes, IN*SOURCE Interpreter Coordinator & Bilingual Program Specialist, will present the classroom instruction for this workshop.
