The remainder of the session will be facilitated as a flexible and responsive conversation to address the questions posed by participants. The content of each session will vary based on the interests of the group. |
Friday, May 31, 2024 | Resolving Disagreements Between Parents and Schools: Dispute Resolution Sometimes parents and schools disagree on decisions in a child's Individualized Education Program (IEP). Issues like qualifications, eligibility areas, goals, services, accommodations, and placement may become contentious. There is a process for working through those disagreements. This presentation will review formal and informal options that may help parents and schools resolve those disagreements. |
Wednesday, June 5, 2024 | The Foster Child with Special Needs This training is for foster parents, case managers, CASAs, judges, teachers, and others who work with foster children. It considers the risk factors for foster children with disabilities, how the special education process applies in their situation and how to advocate for foster children. |
June 28, 2024 | Skills for Effective Parent Advocacy This training is designed to help parents feel comfortable to advocate for their child in the special education process. Participants will learn the meaning of advocacy, six skills for effective advocacy and the importance of organization and effective communication. |
