Miércoles, 15 de mayo 2024 | Disciplina Escolar (School Discipline) Presentado por Michelle Alcantara, Especialista en Communicacion en Español. Esta sesión es un estudio detallado del Artículo 7, la ley de educación especial de Indiana. Está diseñado para ayudar a los padres a comprender su papel en el proceso de educación especial y su derecho a participar en la toma de decisiones. Los participantes practicarán el uso del Artículo 7 para encontrar información. Los temas cubiertos incluyen derivación y evaluación, el Programa de Educación Individualizada (IEP), servicios, colocación y resolución de disputas.Esta capacitación se enfocará en las normas de disciplina del Artículo 7. Cuando un estudiante con una discapacidad infringe una regla escolar, el estudiante puede ser disciplinado de la misma manera que un estudiante sin discapacidad. Sin embargo, existen protecciones para un estudiante con una discapacidad relacionadas con las decisiones de servicio y ubicación. It is designed to help parents understand their role in the special education process and their right to participate in decision making. Participants will practice using Article 7 to find information. Topics covered include referral and evaluation, the Individualized Education Program (IEP), services, placement, and dispute resolution.This training will focus on the discipline regulations in Article 7. When a student with a disability breaks a school rule, the student may be disciplined the same as a student without a disability. However, there are protections for a student with a disability related to service and placement decisions. Article 7 provides directions to both parents and schools on how to access educational services while maintaining an orderly and safe learning environment.) |
Thursday, May 16, 2024 | Student Mental Health Christy Berger, Director of School Counseling and Mental Health for Center Grove School Corporation, will present on student mental heath issues. During this webinar, attendees will learn about current trends among youth mental health and the effects that this can have on academic success. In addition, attendees will learn about the supports that schools and community agencies can provide and how it is essential for them to work together for success! |
Wednesday, May 29, 2024 | About IN*SOURCE with Q&A Participants will be presented with a brief introduction to the IN*SOURCE organization. The remainder of the session will be facilitated as a flexible and responsive conversation to address the questions posed by participants. The content of each session will vary based on the interests of the group. |
Friday, May 31, 2024 | Resolving Disagreements Between Parents and Schools: Dispute Resolution Sometimes parents and schools disagree on decisions in a child's Individualized Education Program (IEP). Issues like qualifications, eligibility areas, goals, services, accommodations, and placement may become contentious. There is a process for working through those disagreements. This presentation will review formal and informal options that may help parents and schools resolve those disagreements. |
Wednesday, June 5, 2024 | The Foster Child with Special Needs This training is for foster parents, case managers, CASAs, judges, teachers, and others who work with foster children. It considers the risk factors for foster children with disabilities, how the special education process applies in their situation and how to advocate for foster children. |
June 28, 2024 | Skills for Effective Parent Advocacy This training is designed to help parents feel comfortable to advocate for their child in the special education process. Participants will learn the meaning of advocacy, six skills for effective advocacy and the importance of organization and effective communication. |
