Wednesday, July 17, 2024 | Inclusion In Education (In Spanish Only/Solo En Español) To the maximum extent appropriate, students are to be educated in the general education setting. Students with special needs may require special aids and services in order to be served in the general education setting. Research supports better outcomes for all students when children of all abilities are included. This training dispels myths, discusses research, and cites state and federal laws that support the inclusive education of children with special needs. Parents will learn how to use the principles of federal law (IDEA) to talk to their school team about inclusion. |
Friday, July 26, 2024 | Early Childhood Transition As your child’s third birthday approaches, your family will need to make a plan because the early intervention program ends at age three. This means your child may be moving from an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) to an Individualized Education Program (IEP). During this training we will review the necessary steps for this transition. We will explain the shift from a family-focus approach to a child-focus approach. We will also review the responsibilities of the parent. We will introduce state and federal terms and provide resources for a successful transition. |

The remainder of the session will be facilitated as a flexible and responsive conversation to address the questions posed by participants. The use of effective communication techniques can enhance collaborative relationships and minimize conflict. This presentation will provide ideas to build positive relationships between parents and schools through verbal and nonverbal communication. |
Wednesday, August 7, 2024 | Proactive Best Practices for Positive Parent Relationships The most important commodity in working with families is TRUST. Developing trust is a low-cost investment that is worth its weight in gold. In this session, participants will consider recommendations to decrease disputes, increase collaboration, build trust, reduce conflict with parents, and increase the instructional impact to benefit student growth. |
Friday, August 23, 2024 | Parents' Perspective on Preparing Students for Adulthood Parents dedicate themselves to helping their children through each phase of their lives. Knowing when to help and when to let children take care of important matters themselves can be tricky, especially as they approach adulthood. This training will describe ways parents can partner with schools and providers to achieve the best possible outcomes for their children as they become young adults. |
